The Celestial Convention
The Celestial Convention was created originally for Rick Stierl who was a regular for many years at most of the local science fiction conventions beginning with the Puget Sound Star Trekkers (P.S.S.T. Con). When Rick passed away after a short illness the RustyCon Board asked the Élan Empire if they would create an event to remember Rick. As a result a Memorial to all those NW Fans who have passed away was created.
The Celestial Convention with the assistance of the International Star Registry names stars in the Ursa Major constellation with the names of those members who have passed from this life into the next. Membership in the Celestial Convention does have its rules, those rules are as follows:
- First, the applicant must have passed away. There is no pre-reg for this convention.
- Second, they must have attended at least one convention in the Pacific Northwest.
- Finally, a convention’s Board of Directors or the applicant’s friends and or their family must provide for their membership to the Board of Governors of The Celestial Convention.
Family, friends or Science Fiction conventions in the Pacific Northwest can purchase a star for the deceased at a nominal fee. Once every five years there will be an official ceremony to induct the member into the memorial. If you know of someone who has passed away and would like to provide a star in their name, please contact RustyCon to make arrangements.
